Handling: Märkliga händelser stör det lugna livet i en tysk by vid tiden innan första världskriget. Händelserna verkar ha en koppling till byns skola och en lärare observerar och undersöker det som inträffar och snart är han något på spåret.

Omdöme: Michael Haneke har en egen konstnärlig stil där han ofta låter kameran observera under en längre tid istället för att jobba med snabba klipp och kameraåkningar/rörelser. Och precis så tar han sig an sitt "mästerverk" som det kallats. De långa tagningarna är påtagliga utan att bli jobbiga och filmens längd känns lagom trots en speltid på en bit över två timmar. Ett elegant svartvitt foto bjuds man på och det är fläckfritt, men enda gången jag känner något extra för fotot är vid mellanpartierna som snyggt visar landsbygden. Men jag vill gärna ha en rörelse i kameran, ett svepande foto som får mig att leva mig in i det jag ser och liksom följa med. Nu känner jag mig endast som en som iakttar och det är lite synd.



Man har även (medvetet) valt skådespelare som inte direkt har utseendet med sig för att passa in i tidigt 1900-tal, vilket är helt rätt. Det ska inte vara en massa snyggingar och kändisar, även om några kända namn dyker upp i Ulrich Tukur och Susanne Lothar, men de passar också in. Man har även en hel del barnskådespelare och till en början känns det lite tveksamt om det kommer funka, men allt eftersom filmen håller på tänker jag mindre på att det faktiskt är barnskådespelare vilket tyder på att det fungerar bra. Som vanligt i Haneke-filmer tas en del dystra ämnen upp och många karaktärer får vara med och leka.



Och på tal om karaktärer så är det genomgående näst intill bara osympatiska karaktärer i filmen. Två av de mer sympatiska är läraren och Eva vars förhållande också är filmens ljuspunkt vad gäller lite positiv anda. Deras förhållande är vad som ger filmen hopp och kanske det parti jag gillar mest. Filmen blir även råare och mörkare under filmens avslutande tredjedel vilket ökar spänningen. Men då det saknas musik skapas inte någon egentlig spänning och stämningen kunde också varit bättre. Om det är rätt att inte ha någon musik eller inte låter jag vara osagt. Jag hade nog personligen trots allt föredragit lite stämningsfull musik, men med Hanekes stil funkar det ändå utan.



Filmen är lite för nedtonad för att jag ska gilla det här mer. Det är ett nedtonat och mörkt drama, men jag finner det aldrig gripande som jag tycker det fanns potential till att bli. Kanske är det avsaknaden av några fler sympatiska karaktärer eller så är det en kombination av att man inte alltid får se själva händelserna utan främst efterspelet och som tidigare nämnts avsaknaden av musik som gör att man tappar den stämning och spänning man annars lätt hade kunnat skapa. Tiden just innan första världskriget bryter ut har man dock lyckats fånga väl och ett gott hantverk är det, men för mig var det inte någon stor upplevelse. Kanske att den växer på mig allt eftersom.

Handling: Ett ungt par misstänker att deras hus är hemsökt och för att skaffa bevis införskaffar de en kamera som ska registrera allt som händer när de sover.

Omdöme: Jag har aldrig direkt trott på den här sortens händelser och det är sällan filmer av denna karaktär skrämmer mig. Men då och då lyckas de och det absolut viktigaste är filmens stämning som är a och o för att det ska kunna lyckas. I det här fallet har man ett väldigt enkelt grundkoncept där hela filmen utspelar sig i en tvåvåningsvilla där Katie och Micah bor. Katie har haft problem med detta redan vid 8 års ålder och det har inte försvunnit sen dess. Micah tror inte så mycket på att det finns något där ute, men köper en bra kamera för att kunna registrera vad som händer.



Inledningsvis händer inte mycket då vi får lära känna de två huvudpersonerna och se hur de använder sig av kameran. Men sen börjar det hända saker, främst mitt i natten när de sover. Det hela blir värre och värre och båda är vettskrämda. Jag måste erkänna att jag inte blev särskilt skrämd, även om vissa av sovrumsscenerna var lite kusliga och de blev allt starkare och intensivare. Sista scenen hoppar man till under, men det allra sista innan filmen är slut känns onödigt och förstör lite. Har även läst att originalslutet är helt annorlunda och låter som ett bättre och mer definitivt slut. Dock är hoppscenen inte med, men jag önskar nog att man hade sett originalslutet ändå och inte Steven Spielberg-slutet.

Word and wordlets

Christmas music is ubiquitous this month: on TV and radio, in the malls and grocery stores, the mp3 player plugged into your head, and jangling from the brightly-blinking animated zoo in the neighbors’ front yard. We’ll hear a lot about sleigh rides and bells (even if we live in a Mediterranean or desert climate—or south of the equator), chestnuts roasting, having a merry little Christmas, Santa Claus, and the legend of a drummer boy present at the nativity. At church, surely we’ll sing Joy to the World, Silent Night, and O Come All Ye Faithful.

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;

Jesus, to Thee be glory given;

Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.

O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

Why is Jesus characterized as The Word? Dictionaries define “word” as

the smallest unit of language,

a conversation,

communication,

news,

an expression or authoritative utterance,

a promise,

a proverb, and

a hypostasis for divine wisdom.

In Latin, “word” doesn’t mean a motionless noun, but verbum. Verbs act and move.

In Greek, logos means word, thought, principle, or speech.

In the gospel of John, first chapter, we read the soaring song of salvation: that in the beginning-before-the-beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men… The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5, 14 NIV.

That’s certainly the most famous reference to Jesus as the Word. But there are many more references to both spoken word and written word in both Testaments. Hebrews 1:1-3 NIV says, In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Jesus is not only the Word of God, but He is the Author of our salvation. (Hebrews 2:10.)

In Revelation 3:12 NIV, the Author tells His believers: I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.

In Jeremiah 31:33-34, the Lord declares that the old covenant, the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2), has been broken, but He will create a new covenant: “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

That is what Jesus, the Word and the Author of salvation, did to our wickedness: forgive and forget. It’s not stored in a computer chip or written on paper in a giant book. We are written in the Book of Life, Jesus Himself. Jesus is life. Every word I've spoken to you is a Spirit-word, and so it is life-making. John 6:63 MSG.

The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians that they were a letter, written on his heart of love, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ…written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:3 NIV.

We are epistles written from God’s heart, and dare I say, written on God’s heart. Ah! Not only is our Lord “The Word,” but because we are His children through creation and adoption, we are also words—maybe “wordlets” (to coin a word). He has written His words and His will upon our living hearts, and He dwells within us.

What an incomprehensibly gigantic gift is wrapped up in the small collection of letters that we read as “Word.”

As I read the story of Jesus’ birth this season, I will meditate on each of the secular definitions of “Word.” In them there is much to learn of our sacred Word.

…..In the beginning was a small unit of language (from God to His children).

…..In the beginning was a conversation.

…..In the beginning was communication.

…..In the beginning was an authoritative utterance.

…..In the beginning was a promise.

…..In the beginning was a verb.

Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing. O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!

Crazy Heels

Whilst tidying out my closet (this happens regularly as I make such a mess of it on a daily basis!)I have come to realise that my shoes can be sorted into two distinct categories...shoes that I can walk in and shoes that just look pretty. I often find that I see an amazing pair of shoes with gorgeous detailing and conveniently ignore the fact that they kill my feet before I've even left the house!

I'm almost just content staring at them neatly tucked away in their box, looking pristine and untouched...yes I think I do have a problem! Often these amazing shoes are not practical or comfortable, they're more a work of art in their own right. They make me happy. However, I am fully aware that I need to start concentrating on shoes that I can actually put on my feet and god forbid, walk in for more than 10 minutes! I have noticed more and more crazy heels on shoes and I keep wondering whether people can actually WALK in them...I mean celebrities wear them on the red carpet but they have chaffeurs to drop them off, they walk about for a couple of hours and then get driven home. Not exactly the same as battling your way home through the mean streets, is it?! I always feel 100% more glamourous when I have high heels on. I tend to feel like I have clown feet when I wear flats and the weird thing is, I kinda walk funny in them...I always find that I walk straighter and taller in heels. Although with the icy weather appearing over the last couple of days I think I will be forced to wear flats or risk a broken limb! So do you guys go for the comfy option or tough it out in in sky scrapers?

Does anyone out there in beauty bloggerland wear those crazy heels that have baubles on them or carved figurines???
